We all love reading e-books, but writing e-books that people love to read, well, it is a whole different story.
If you are like me and are itching to dive into the world of e-book writing, just so you can feel the joy and satisfaction of publishing your own work, how-to guides are abundant out there.
But because we do not want you just to write a book, but write a book that everybody wants to read, THIS is the guide to help you master the art!

Step 1: Choose The Right Topic
Choosing the right topic is paramount. You do not want to bore your readers to death, so you must pick a topic that will rivet them, spike their interest, and pique their curiosity. On the other hand, you do not want to bore yourself to death while writing it, so you must choose a topic that will inspire you to write it. If the topic is right for your audience but wrong for you, your writing will turn out to be an arduous task that will drag you down to a spiraling downfall of burnout.
Step 2: Research Extensively
Once you have decided what your topic is, you should research extensively about it. If you want to be professional about your e-book, it must have sources, references, and data to back up your arguments (unless, of course, you are writing a novel, but e-books are typically non-fiction). Ensure to include a list of your references at the end, and give credit where it needs to be given. Plagiarism is the ultimate sin a writer can commit, and you do not want to be seen as the evil stealing writer, usurping other people’s work.
Step 3: Decide Who Your Target Audience Is
If you want to bait and hook your audience, you need to know who your audience is. Who is your targeted audience? Is it new writers venturing in the world of copywriting? Is it business owners wishing to expand their business cycle? Or is it something completely different? Perhaps new parents seeking positive parenting tips?
It is essential to know who you are appealing to, but it is more important to craft accurate audience personas. Simply knowing that your targeted readers are aspiring fledgling writers will not cut it. Instead, you need to dig beneath the surface and understand your audience.
As a new writer, what are his deepest concerns and worries? Does he have a family? Small children, student loans, and a mortgage? What does this person need from me? What type of information would be valuable to share?
Deciding who your target audience is and crafting accurate audience personas is the way to go.
Step 4: Create An Outline
Unless you are a naturally gifted genius with an IQ off the charts, chances are you cannot sit down and pour words onto your computer screen in a cohesive order one chapter after another, without any sort of outline.
So, sit down and devote your time and energy to making your books’ outline. How many chapters will you include? How do you plan on covering your topic in each chapter? You need to decide these questions before your writing even begins if you want your text to be logical.
According to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, “i arxi einai to imisi tou pantos” which loosely translates to, the beginning is half of everything.
So, get your outline done right, and you are halfway done!
Step 5: Write Your Copy
Set up your ideal home office space, and get down to writing your copy. Decide what time works best for you and make an effort to write every day during that time. Think of it as going to your office and working for x-hours. If you do not commit to it and simply spend time writing on a whim, you will never get your book done.
Step 6: Edit
You can hire a professional editor to do it, or you can edit your book yourself. There is an abundance of writing tools out there that can help you with the process. Grammarly is an excellent tool, and although not free, it is definitely value for money.

Once you have finished editing your book, take a step back and relax. Forget the book for a couple of days and then come back and take a fresh look at it. You might find things you missed in the first place or pick a sentence that does not sit right. Re-reading your work after taking a break can do wonders for your editing process.
Step 7: Illustrate And Make It Appealing
If you can illustrate, then this is the time to get creative and have fun while you are at it. If, on the other hand, you are like me, and could not draw a line for the life of you, then maybe hiring an illustrator could be an option.
Remember, your book cover is what your audience will see first. So make it a killer one!
Step 8: Brand Your Product
Nobody ever got anywhere without help from a little bit of advertising. So, get out there and promote your book. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and blog posts are all platforms that lend themselves to advertising. You might be hesitant to invest in paid ads, but the returns will make it all worth it.
